Serving Others: Eagle Scout Project

"You're never too young to make a difference," reflects Paul Heckart, Carpentry Trades Junior.

This epiphany came as a result of several days of hard work as Paul and his Construction Trades classmates assisted on a project for Brandon Parry, an 8th grade student at Neshannock; Brandon is working toward his rank of Eagle Scout. At this rank, Brandon's task was to plan, develop, and provide leadership to others in a service project helpful to any religious institution, any school, or your community that is NOT involved with Scouting.  The project? -- constructing twelve 8 - 30 ft. benches for an amphitheater overlooking Pymatuming Lake at Jamestown Campgrounds. After going through a rigorous approval process, Brandon knew who to contact for help:  Lawrence County Career and Technical Center's Construction Trades shop.

Heckart comments, "I was impressed at the depth of planning that Brandon needed to go through.  There was an extensive amount of work involved with making these benches for the amphitheater -- and I sure was tired at the end of the day."  It is readily apparent that Heckart was impacted by the fact that someone so young to complete a project of this magnitude.

Brandon, his family members, LCCTC's Tech Director -- an Eagle Scout, himself,  and the CT shop under the direction of Bob Seminara plan to have the project done before the Memorial Day crowds gather at Pymatuming.
