5K

It was a chilly, rainy Thursday afternoon, but that didn't stop over 190 runners/walkers and 13 student volunteers to participate in LCCTC's first ever Jeri Palumbo Memorial 5K.

LCCTC students and staff, many who were dressed in purple to honor the memory and 42 years of dedicated service of Ms. Palumbo who passed away earlier this year, pushed themselves farther than they ever imagined they could. Most completed the

entire course, but all braved the rain and the cold to honor one very special teacher, mentor, and friend.

Her legacy lives on through the Jeri Palumbo Memorial Scholarship to honor her life. Generous donations have been collected and these funds will help students continue their studies after high school -- one of her passions in life.

Another passion in her life was walking. When the weather wasn't conducive to taking a brisk, purposeful stroll outdoors, she could often be found winding her way through the mile of hallway we have here in the school.

"We are so thankful to work with such a wonderful and supportive staff and administration," Mrs. Cepro and Mrs. Heasley, coordinators of the event, reflected. "Lisa and I may have come up with the idea of the 5K but ALL of YOU, in your own way did all that you could to support our efforts. I really believe Jeri wouldn’t have been comfortable with all the fuss in her honor but she would have been very proud of how the staff and students worked together to make this event a memorable experience."
...and it was a memory -- a good memory.
