"These are not mansions by any
means, but to the homeowners, they will be palaces."
- Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat
for Humanity International
Would you like to help the community? If so, Habitat for Humanity is the perfect opportunity!
Habitat for
Humanity is a volunteer, a program, has been around since 1976. Since then, Habitat
has helped over 5 million people construct, rehabilitate, and preserve
homes in all 50 states and more than 70 countries.
New Castle hosts just one their 1,400 affiliates, and the Construction Trades shop is proud to offer its expertise. Recently, Mr. Seminara took thirteen strong hard-working men and one woman to do insulation and offer its help in whatever way needed.
Kirk Boots,
CT senior, is proud to volunteer. “Working with Habitat for Humanity was a
blessing!” Even though it was hot and humid outside, Kirk pushed himself to dig a ditch
because he wanted to make a positive impact on the community. He is also
considering volunteering with Habitat for Humanity with the next build.
Mr. Seminara believes that senior Abby Huff will also volunteer for Habitat for Humanity in the future. This time she insulated the house and also helped dig the ditch. “Hard work pays off!” she says. “I feel great that I was able to help someone else!”
When asked how it made him feel watching his students work in this capacity, Mr. Seminara replied with a sparkling smile, "Proud! They knew what they were doing, and they demonstrated a strong work ethic.”
As the
seniors graduate out of the construction program, Mr. Seminara is certain that
his students possess the skills needed to get a good job and support
themselves.
