How about someone who has made her love of animals her life? Meet Mrs. Yanak, one of LCCTC's newest instructors in one of our fastest-growing shops: Vet Tech.
If you would ask the Vet Tech students what it’s like at the beginning of the school year, they'd say, “Notes, theory, memorization, and a lot of learning.” And it's true: some days, students – first year members of this newly-formed shop -- are pages deep in theory and kinesthetically participating as they learn to identify different dog breeds; however, on this particular day, Mrs. Yanak brought in three baby lambs -- wearing diapers, of course!
When asked about her favorite animal, Mrs. Yanak, after careful consideration and the listing of several different animals, she answered "A manatee!" No wonder her answer took her a while; at the end of the day, she goes home to care for cows, goats, chickens, dogs, and cats.
Though it was tough for Mrs. Yanak to select her favorite animal, it was easy to answer the next question: What is your favorite aspect about LCCTC? She quickly replied, "The students!"
Next year, she plans to build the curriculum by incorporating more hands-on activities. Ultimately, it is her wish that the students will be more confident in their knowledge so they might enter the workforce with the assurance that they can succeed, the tenacity to learn more every day, and the courage to follow their passion.
