A Day in the Life...: COT ~ by Nolin Marcus

Each month, the Eagle Staff plans to feature a shop experience as told from the eyes of an incoming sophomore. We will answer the question, "What can I expect to experience if I'm in this shop?" This month, Nolin Marcus is proud to feature his shop, Computer and Office Technology:

I’m glad that I chose the shop I am in today. Miss Gabriel’s COT class is really going to help me get a head start in my career.

As soon as we got here, we jumped straight into the work and wasted no time. We’ve started working in Microsoft Word, an Office program designed to create documents and so much more. As sophomores, we’re creating business cards in this program, and we’re making sure that everything about them is as perfect as every mistake is a reflection on ourselves.

Microtype is another project we’re working on. It’s a typing program, so it’s very difficult, but it’s helping all of us boost our speed in using the computer.

I’ve taken a look at some of the junior work as well. It’s mostly Excel work so far, another Microsoft Office program. I’m happy to be learning these applications because I know that my future employers would really value these skills.

Many of the seniors are working on their certification exams, but some of them are working on video game programs. The seniors seem to really know what they’re doing, and many of them are able to help out other sophomores in their free time.

All in all, I’m really glad I chose this shop. These programs and applications are going to greatly benefit me in the future, and hey — I get to be in the only class with air-conditioning all day.

Nolin Marcus, a COT senior, plans to continue his education at a university and would one day like to work as a Information Technology Specialist.  When he's not rocking it out on the computer, he's rocking it out with his bass; an accomplished musician, Nolan enjoys playing for those who love music.

Nolin would like to thank Kixx Alderette, Thomas Gennock, Nathan Innocent, Mark Semans, and Ms. Gabriel for their help in writing this article.
