Glowing Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness ~ Shelby Leasure

October is a month filled with many milestones; Halloween, the beginning sights of Fall, horror movies, chilly weather, and football games -- but October is also a very important month for many people, for another reason.

This month glows pink for Breast Cancer Awareness for millions across the country. The students of LCCTC are joining to show their support.

According to cancer.org, this year, there has been an estimated 250,000 people diagnosed with invasive breast cancer.

For only a few dollars, students, staff, friends, and families can buy a shirt to show their support for those diagnosed with breast cancer. The shirts come in a charcoal color with pink writing, and were designed by LCCTC’s Peer Leadership members.

Order forms are available from Mrs. Pasterik. Shirts size ranging from small to extra-large are $5, and any size ranging higher than an extra-large cost an additional $2.

Order forms and money should be turned into Mrs. Pasterik by October 5th.

The shirts will be worn to show support for “the fighters, the survivors, and those who fought the good fight.” Proceeds from the sale will go toward Dr. Slamon's Cancer Research; according to StandUpToCancer.org, originally from West Pittsburgh (here in the New Castle area), Dr. Slamon currently works at UCLA and is described as being one of the "miracle workers at the center of Stand up to Cancer."

On October 24th, a photograph will be taken of those at LCCTC who wear their Pink Out shirts.
