During the September board meeting, we were proud to
introduce Alexis Herold, Veterinary Assistant, as our first Pride and Promise Award recipient.
Alexis is an
active member of the German Shepherd Club of America. She and her dogs,
both German Shepherds and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, have participated in
many dog shows. Without Alexis to train them, her dogs would just be ordinary,
but together, they become a highly skilled team.
Alexis shows
great motivation, dedication, and discipline to achieve the following
distinctions:
- three
International Championships on 3 German Shepherds at the Eukanuba Hall
- several Canine
Good Citizenship titles on 4 German Shepherds and 1 Cavalier king Charles
Spaniel
- a Canine Good
Citizenship Advanced with her current dog, Leo
In addition to
her work with the local fire department, she also traveled to Camp Perry, Ohio
to compete in a National Rimfire Civilian Marksmanship competition and placed
forty-second in the nation.
Alexis plans to
continue training and showing dogs, and her goal is, one day, to show at the
Westminster Kennel Show.
In the meantime,
Alexis is beginning to train her dogs to help others. She is currently
working towards a TDI (therapy dog) certification so she can visit hospitals
and nursing homes.
In her “spare
time,” she works at McDonald's.
When she
graduates, she would like to go to college for NICU Nursing; she plans to work
as a Veterinary assistant while in school.
