Direct Care Staff Certification

Most of us don't think twice in our day-to-day activities. We wake up, get out of bed and drag ourselves to the bathroom to do our morning routines. We get dressed and grab breakfast, maybe a cup of coffee or make a slice of toast.

Imagine now if weren't able to complete these simple tasks -- maybe you were born this way, perhaps you get into an accident, or you become ill. Life would not be the same -- and you would need help.

Every single Health Assistant sophomore and junior earned their certifications to become Direct Care Staff, a certification that will enable them to assist people who need help to continue to have a quality of life in their own homes. That's a 100% success rate!

100% Success!  Great job, HA!
Each student had to complete 13 modules in order to learn the skills needed to pass the standardized assessment offered by the PA Department of Human Services. This course and exam was free to take, and it enables our students to now care for someone in their home as a one-to-one caretaker or in an assisted living area.
Shelby Leasure, Direct Care Certified
Shelby Leasure successfully completed her Direct Care Staff training; she says that "Nursing appeals to me because my entire life has revolved around the medical field." Both of her parents are EMT and firefighters, and this has inspired her to follow in their footsteps. "I absolutely love to help people, to make their lives better, and to help in any way they need."
Heather  and Brittany -- future RNs!
Heather Jewel was so excited about this certification, she posted it on social media right away. When asked why she took the test, she replied, "I want to help people and make easier for them."

Mr. Vince Pavia, RN and Health Assistant Instructor, is happy to share this news: 100% success! Every student who took the certification test today passed!

Mr. Pavia goes on to state that this portion of his curriculum is designed to be a pre-requisite to the nurse-aid certification and, in the future, will be annually implemented in first semester of the HA students' sophomore year.

Congratulations on your accomplishments! We're so proud of you!
