  • Benjamin Franklin wanted the Turkey to be the official holiday birdy.
  • The average turkey around Thanksgiving is 15 lbs.
  • The heaviest turkey ever raised was the size of a large dog, weighing in at 86 lbs.
  • Male turkeys gobble, but hens don’t; they make a clucking noise.
  • Turkeys raised commercially cannot fly.
  • It is possible for turkeys to have heart attacks. Once, while the United States Air Force was having trail runs -- breaking the sound barrier. The nearby turkeys dropped dead with heart attacks.
  • Turkeys have horrible night vision.
  • Americans eat 530 million pounds of turkey on Thanksgiving.

Upon graduation, senior Health Assistant student, Jeralynn DeNome, plans to continue her education in the health field. She looks forward to becoming a Registered Nurse, but for now, she enjoys her co-op job working as a Certified Nurse Aid at the Jameson Care Center in Neshannock Township. "There will always be people telling you , 'You can't.' Look them in the eyes and say, 'Watch me'."
