TFIM Earns the Power of Peers Grant! ~ by The Eagle Staff

Recently, The Consortium for Public Education awarded the Power of Peers grant to the Lawrence County Career and Technical Center (LCCTC) chapter of The Future is Mine (TFIM).

This grant will be used to fund an ongoing project that focuses on the question, “Who do I want to be?” This year, TFIM students have been exploring our school programs, determining what careers exist within those fields, and searching for the pathways to reach their career goals.

The TFIM students used the grant to purchase video equipment enabling students to conduct interviews and compile them into a video library of possible career options stemming from a LCCTC education.
Currently, they are working on the videos and hope to post them soon for prospective students to peruse.

According to the Consortium for Public Education's web page, the program has been active since 2000, is open to high school students in grades 9-12, supports over 700 students each year, and currently serves 26 high schools in western PA. Their mission is to "expand and enrich career preparation opportunities, beginning in kindergarten, so that all of their students graduate with viable plans for post-secondary education and careers...[TFiM} is creating the kinds of opportunities kids need to not just imagine their post-secondary futures, but actually experience what college is like, what alternative paths apprenticeships offer and even how people collaborate to solve business problems in real work settings.
