Mud Terrain Race ~ by Jason Ealy

On May 5, 2018, two future soldiers from Lawrence County CTC, Jason Ealy (Auto Technician junior from Mohawk) and Daniel DeHaven (Welding junior from Wilmington) participated in the New Castle Recruiting Company’s mud terrain race at Mines & Meadows in Wampum, Pennsylvania.

Dirty, but accomplished!
The idea behind the obstacles at this event was to make the participants work as a team to overcome and complete a hard task. The local Army Recruiting center desires to give others a glimpse into what the future Armed Forces of this great country is all about.

“My biggest takeaway was all about the importance of teamwork,” reflects DeHaven. “We ran as a team, we climbed as a team. If someone was struggling, we were motivated to made sure that they got through.”

There were a total of approximately 22 obstacles that might require crawling, climbing, and sludging through. The obstacles were both physically and mentally wearing. The 3 kilometer terrain race was definitely one for the books.

“It was a rough race,” comments Ealy. “The morning was brisk and rather wet from rain -- but it was perfect conditions for the purpose. The course was slick and muddy, and all around dirty! -- and lots of fun!”

Congratulations, Ealy, on a job well-done!
All in all, we had a blast doing this event, and we would 100% do it again!
