O & C State Champions Prep for Nationals

School's out for summer, but that doesn't mean that our State Champions sit back and do nothing.  Our SkillsUSA Opening and Closing team has been hard at practice, perfecting their skills as speakers and working together in a quest toward perfection.

Their aim?  To work together like a well-oiled machine as they present their speeches and move in synchronized manners to compete in Opening and Closing Ceremonies at the SkillsUSA National Championships in Louisville, KY.

Welcome distractions of children at the playground, gnats and bugs
doing what gnats and bugs do, and the loud roar from lawn
mowing can't stop this crew!
This is no easy feat considering that they have a lot of extra on their minds:  graduation parties to host and attend, job schedules to keep, and for five members -- college to prepare for.  "These are my last days in SkillsUSA; over the last three years, it has been a steady part of my life," considers O&C President, Halle St. Clair.  "I want to end strong and make our school proud."
Considering that LCCTC's last State Champion O & C team from 1974 brought home the National Championship Gold, this 2016 team has big shoes to fill in their quest to represent Pennsylvania with pride.
Practice at Ewing Park
They all are looking forward to their trip to compete at the national level and plan to make the most of every moment there.  Yes -- they are excited to spend some down-time at SkillsUSA Night Kentucky Kingdom theme park, but they have also agreed to roll up their sleeves as they participate in the National Leadership Conference's service project:  making benches for the community around the Louisville area.

They would like to thank so many for helping them go to Nationals:  Mr Rich and the Joint Operating Committee who basically said -- "We'll find a way", the LCCTC business office for ensuring they have what they need, their SkillsUSA advisors for giving their time and talents to ensure that SkillsUSA thrives at LCCTC, the students and staff of LCCTC for being such a supportive cheering section, the former members of the O & C team for paving the way with grace and determination before them, the school custodians who smiled and changed their working patterns to ensure they had a place to practice, and to their families and friends who have been their steadfast supporters and encouragers throughout the year.

They are pleased to show-off their competition presentation in full-uniform to the Joint Operating Committee and community audience members on Thursday, June 16th at the monthly board meeting beginning at 6:30 PM in the library of the Lawrence County CTC.

They will travel on June 20 - 25th to Louisville, KY to compete at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Leadership Conference for the National Championships.  We all wish them well.
