The Hero of 2006 ~ by Aunonseeis Shirley

by: Aunonseeis Shirley RT 12th

There was a man, strong and brave, and newly married. His mother, father, and sister never thought they would get a knock on the door on that fine day, January 5, 2006 at 6:30 PM. This hero had given his life for his country, his squad, and his family.

The headstrong Marine led his team into the battlefield, never to return.  This hero, though mortally wounded, somehow kept fighting; after it all, he told his men to never give up and to be strong.

Even going to the hospital, he thought about the team instead of himself, but he passed away as THE HERO.

He was a loving, strong, handsome, stubborn, head-strong man who was loved by all who met him. His memory lives on in his family, in his squad, mother's classroom, and also within the hearts of his mother's students.

Can you guess who this hero was?   He was Cpl. Albert Gettings, of the United States Marine Corps.  He became a hero by choice and fate. He lives on in everyone who knew him and the strength we see in his family, most visibly for us in his mother, Mrs. Julie Gettings, teacher at LCCTC.
May everyone know and learn by his COURAGE.   He may be gone, but he isn’t forgotten.  May he rest in peace.  Albert Gettings, may you watch over us and guide us.

Today, on Veteran’s Day, please observe with us a moment of silence for him and for all who have fallen.
