LCCTC SkillsUSA Success at State Championships

When you think of Hershey, you might think of your favorite sweet treat, but when students from the Lawrence County Career and Technical Center think of Hershey ~ it’s so much more. When LCCTC students hear “Hershey”, they think of SkillsUSA State Championships. 

This year, LCCTC is proud to announce that ten students brought home a medal!

And -- for the third year in a row -- the Opening and Closing team from Lawrence County CTC brought home a gold medal! This team is made up of the following students: seniors Krista Berkley (Cosmetology ~ Laurel) President, Felicity Weir (Health Assistant ~ Shenango) Vice President, and Tristyn Gravatt (Commercial Art ~ Union) Historian. Junior students include: Trenton Yale (Masonry ~ New Castle) Parliamentarian, Dayuna Ware (Health Assistant ~ New Castle) Reporter, Tabatha Zang (Veterinary Assistant ~ Ellwood City)Treasurer, and Jaden Locke (Secretary ~ Ellwood City) Secretary.

This team will travel to the National Championships held in Louisville, Kentucky on June 25-30th. On June 18 - 24th, these first Place winners will compete at the National Leadership and Skills Conference being held in Louisville.

Additionally, silver medals adorn the necks of two competing students:junior Trevor Cunningham (Machine Tool Technician ~ Ellwood City) for CNC Technician and senior Shelby Leasure (Health Assistant ~ New Castle) for First Aid/CPR.

In all, twenty-nine students from Lawrence County Career and Technical Center (LCCTC) participated in the 51st Pennsylvania SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference in Hershey, PA. They competed in contests during the two-day conference, which challenged the competitors to show off their talents against others from eleven districts all across the state. The conference showcased the best of the best of Career and Technical Education in  42 different trade, technical, and leadership contests on April 18 - 20th.

LCCTC students competed in a variety of competitions: Automotive Service Technology, Chapter Display, Electrical Construction Wiring, Employment Application Process, Health Occupation Professional Portfolio, Industrial Motor Control, Masonry, Mechatronics, Nurse Assisting, Promotional Bulletin Board, Technical Computer Applications, and Welding Fabrication. All contests were run with the help of industry, trade associations, and labor organizations. Test competencies are set by industry.

Congratulations LCCTC’s Chapter of SkillsUSA -- for your outstanding showing at state competition, and GOOD LUCK to the Opening and Closing team as you travel to the National Leadership and Skills Conference in Louisville, KY on June 18 - 24 of this year. We are proud of you all!
