The Future is Mine Helps Those in Need ~ Rebekah Shoaf and Alaina DeLuca

LCCTC’s club The Future Is Mine (TFiM) hosted a competition. Normally competitions are about those that win, but this time the competition helped those in need. Each Vocational Shop for each week was challenged to donate hygiene products for some of Lawrence County’s local shelters.

The students truly stepped up with over 400 products being collected from the fourteen shops starting from the beginning of November until the first week of December. Some of the items included soaps, shampoos, conditioners, toothbrushes, toothpaste, washcloths, and other essentials. The winning class was rewarded with a pizza party - Enjoy Cosmetology Week A students! The runners up - Health Assistance Week A and Vet Tech Week A - were rewarded with a donut breakfast.

All of the donated items were sorted into boxes and delivered to New Castle City Rescue Mission and The Crisis Shelter on Friday, December 15. Happy to help with the final leg of this competition were Alaina DeLuca, Haileigh Hawk, Alyssa Graham, Angel Kaszowski, Ethan Masajada, and Rebekah Shoaf.

Having the experience of seeing how grateful the workers were that the community cared enough to donate that many items really felt uplifting to the six of us that attended the trip.

“At first, I thought this would just be another simple service project,” states Alaina DeLuca, Cosmetology senior. “However, I realized that everything that I have at my fingertips everyday is harder for some people to get and not have to worry about.”

“This was a very heartfelt project for me because my favorite thing to do is help other people, it’s a bonus that I’m getting to help people in my community” states Rebekah Shoaf, Cosmetology Senior.

TFiM club realized that they and the LCCTC community impacted lives, which is more rewarding than any slice of pizza. TFiM would like to thank all those who participated in the drive and made the difference. As the Holiday season begins, we at LCCTC take pride in that we try to spread the spirit of giving in as many ways as possible!

My Last Holiday Dance ~ by Shelby Leasure

As a senior, I will cherish the memories of high school with me forever. I am overwhelmed with emotion as I come to the realization that recently, I attended my last LCCTC holiday dance.

I remember my first holiday dance as a sophomore. I could never forget the amazing time I had dancing with all of the friends I had met that year. On Friday, December 8th, I danced crazily with my friends in the cafeteria for the last time. This year, I dressed myself in heels and blinging jewelry for my last holiday dance. It is bittersweet… Both bitter AND sweet.

This year, the dance was one I will always remember. The food was spectacular. The desserts were tasty, and the best part was the Make-Your-Own hot chocolate table! The DJ from the Budai DJ “Empire” played awesome music, as usual. The most exciting part of my night though, was the crowning of not one, but TWO Holiday Queens!

If there is any advice I could give to underclassmen, it is this: Enjoy everything while you can. Enjoy the dances, and have a wild time (within reason, of course) while you have the chance. Volunteer as much as you can. Join all the clubs you can, and reach to achieve all that you can. Your high school years are shorter than you think, live them wisely and fully.

Merry Mistletoe: Holiday Dance 2017

Congratulations to the Officers of the Class of 2020 and the Merry Mistletoe Committee Members for a successful dance tonight!

Christmas trees dotted the cafeteria turning it into a winter wonderland; everywhere you turned, you might find a sprig of Mistletoe -- perfect for snuggling with your favorite guy or girl! From the preview posters created and printed by Commercial Arts, to carefully-planned meal, cocoa bar, and cookie table (Thank you RT students!), every detail was carefully considered! And the DJ -- well, you can see from the pictures below that it was quite a party; he kept so many out on the dance floor for hours!

Mrs. Discello, sophomore Class Advisor, would like to thank the LCCTC Administration, teaching staff including Mrs. Cozza, Mrs. Pasterik, and Mrs. Brown, the custodial staff, and the New Castle Police Department for all of their support. The Restaurant Trades shop for helping provide delicious delicacies. She'd also like to thank her class officers and committee members for all of their hard work and planning to make sure this night was one to remember with a smile. We'd like to thank Mrs. Discello for her vision, hard work, and careful planning to make sure this night was a phenomenal success.

Congratulations also goes to our Holiday Dance Queens! Yes -- You heard right; for the first time in LCCTC history, there was a tie, so the honor of being queen goes to two well-deserving ladies: Ms. Angel Kasowski, senior Cosmetology student AND Ms. Carlee Stoner, senior Computer and Office Technology student!
