St. BALDricks ~ by Makaila Holsinger

Worldwide, childhood cancer diagnoses are delivered to 175 thousand families.  Before children turn twenty, one in 285 children will be diagnosed with some form of cancer. That is way too many.

Even with the medical advances available in the United states, more children die of childhood cancer than any other disease—more than AIDS, asthma, cystic fibrosis, congenital anomalies and diabetes combined. Sixty-six percent of all children suffer hearing loss, vision impairments, heart disease, secondary cancers, struggles with learning, infertility and other long-term effects.

On March 19th, Anthony Grant and Devin Marshall wanted to take a stand against childhood cancer alongside their favorite buddy, Briley!

Here are steps they took to do this:

  • Step 1: SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT THE EVENT.
  • Step 2: REGISTER TO SHAVE THEIR HEADS.
  • Step 3: COLLECT MONEY TO DONATE TO THE ORGANIZATION.
  • Step 4: SHAVE THEIR HEADS!!!

This year, the event was held at the Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Department. Fifty-five heads were shaved and over $7,600 was raised; because of Anthony and Devin's contributions, they helped add to this total to fight for childhood cancer research.
