Building New Visions: Welding ~ Kenna Curtis
This year, Mr. Petronelis and his students have been given the task to remodel their shop. As a welding student, I can already see a huge improvement!
Bright new and shiny can be wonderful; however, remodeling is not a painless process whatsoever. Between unloading shipments of material and maneuvering around new floor plans, life can be a little hectic to say the least.
Remodeling is also very labor-intensive, often occupying our time and our energy. Nevertheless, we are very fortunate to be working toward a more authentic industrial experience.
Additionally, it is helping the students studying Welding to create a new beginning together -- a beginning where we're stronger, safer, and able to exceed more than we ever thought possible. Most of all, we are able to solidify as a true team.
I am proud of my shop, and I encourage all of you to visit to see all of the new and wonderful projects we can now accomplish.

CT Puts a Lid on It ~ Kalley McClure
At the end of September, Construction Trades spent a few weeks over in North Point in Neshannock Township at a job site for roofing. When we asked the shop to write down a few thoughts about their experience, most of what we heard was that it was a good time in which they learned a lot.
Here's what they had to say:
"This week was a lot of fun," states Nothing can replace working on something with your crew. Hopefully we can get more chances to take on jobs like this one." ~ Austin Campbell, a sophomore from New Castle.
"Aside from the hard work and beat up hands," Logan Michael, a senior from New Wilmington, tells us, "it was one of the nicest roofs I've ever done with Mr. Seminara."
Sometimes, it is more than learning about angles and skills. "Working together to get the job done is more efficient with a group effort." ~ Madelyn Foster, junior from New Castle.
Christian Tanner, a senior from Neshannock would agree with Madelyn. "I learned what can't be taught in a classroom setting."
Carpentry students are truly following Confucius' old adage, "Find a job you love and you'll never work a day in your life!" Austin Woodruff, senior from New Wilmington concurs "I had a good time on the job. It wasn't too hard, and I learned a lot."
Ashley Long, senior from New Castle, adds, "I realized that if you do it the right way, you will find yourself having fun and getting the job done correctly."
Overall, it seemed like construction had a great time helping the community and benefited greatly from the experience. They learned a lot of new skills and are excited for the next job site opportunity.

Top of the Shop: Fall Semester

We celebrate those students who demonstrated the outstanding qualities that make them stand out as the "Top of the Shop" for the second 9-week grading period.
This honor occurs every 9 week grading period. Each shop teacher selects one student from their shop with the following requirements:
- Most outstanding
- Good academics
- Clean discipline record
If you are looking to be a candidate of “Top of The Shop” for the next 9 week grading period, do your very best. Who knows? You could be among those celebrated for excellence!

The History of Halloween

As we all know, Halloween is a holiday, but what made this spooky night one of the most beloved holidays for both young and old? Most think that Halloween is all about the candy and costumes but do you know the origins of Halloween?

Halloween is also known as "Hallowmas." It is the evening before the Christian's holy day of Hallows Day, a time to honor the saints.
Many traditions changed; for a example, Jack-O-Lanterns were originally made from turnips! Crazy right? The Jack-O-Lantern tradition came from a Celtic tale where Jack tricked the devil into playing for his drink; wanting to play a trick, the devil gave Jack a hellish ember. However, Jack being wise enough to recognize the deceit turned the ember into a radish carved to scare away any future hellish encounters.
One of the most loved Halloween songs came to life in The Nightmare Before Christmas a favorite among Halloween movies. This movie celebrates not only Halloween; it was also features another favorite holiday, Christmas. Tim Burton, famed director, released this movie on October, 12, 1993; the musical score was written by Danny Elfman whose songs have been featured in many other movies including Disney's movies Halloweentown and Halloween Screams, the Corpse Bride, and several episodes of The Simpsons.
So as you can see there is a lot more to Halloween than just candy and costumes; it has a history behind it that many did not know... the candy is good too.

Fright Fest
Congratulations to the LCCTC students for their participation in this year's Cascade Park Fright Fest to benefit the American Cancer Society. $5150 was raised. So many outside including of our LCCTC family helped to make this annual event a huge success including event organizer, Camden and Brandel Cwynar, our school nurse's sons; students from Shenango high school; and Ernie Copper from the American Cancer Society.
Why give up a perfectly good weekend? "I wanted to be involved in something really fun," states Rachel Duffy, Restaurant Trades Sophomore, "and to be able to help the people who need it. It's a big event, and I'm glad I got to be a part of it."

Riley Leonard, Restaurant Trades Sophomore, agrees but she has a little more to add: "That, in itself was a good reason. But being able to dress up, scare people, and hang out with some amazing people was a huge plus, too."
Doug Hagg, Masonry senior, who is also an Eagle Scout and committed to a live of service, comments that he had "loads of fun." I think all who attended and participated can agree!
