Pedal Car ~ Kalley McClure

From the start of December into the end of January, the LCCTC Collision Repair students worked hard on transforming a standard pedal car into a ‘33 Ford Roadster for the Pedal Car Competition at this year's World of Wheels.

With a bi-weekly shop schedule, the task presented to the students was challenging; many doubted they’d get it done, but the students rose to the challenge set before them by their teacher, Mr. Evan Banner, and they exceeded all expectations. By staying after school and coming in on days off, the students managed  to pull together and get it finished just in time.

Junior CR student, Beau Maulbauer, recalls, “While it was a lot of hard work and pretty time consuming, the fact we didn’t win doesn’t bother me. I’m still super-proud of the outcome, and can’t wait to return next year and bring home gold.”

Jaiden Laster, a senior, made and fitted the back piece for the Ford Roadster as well as most of the welding. With the assistance of junior, Brendon Theisler, Seniors Kalley McClure and Rayna Gasser did the bodywork that helped give the pedal car its shape. Beau Maulbauer made the grille, did most of the metal fabrication, and assembled the pieces.

Everyone involved worked hard to make the pedal car as beautiful as it is.

"Their end-product just impressed me," beams Evan Banner, CR instructor. "This class has really come a long way in the industry, and a project like this is the perfect way to showcase their talents. It is a great way to teach them usable skills for the future."

We would like to take a moment to thank Evan Banner, the teacher, for his patience, guidance, and confidence in his students.
